WHO WE ARE

Mission and Vision

The MISSION of the Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery is to educate and to promote art and culture for current and future generations.

Since the late 1990’s, the Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery has been a pioneer in bringing Mexican visual and performing arts to the Stockton community. The MHC&G continues to enrich the community with art, culture, and educational programs. Dedicated artists,

educators, and interested members of the community volunteer their time, and work together to educate the public of the rich tradition, heritage and culture of Mexico.

Some of the many activities the MHC&G celebrates include art exhibits by artists, traditional Mexican holidays such as the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), Nativity scene exhibits, altars for loved ones who have passed, Sopas de Amor during Valentine's Day, Adelita Awards, and art workshops for elementary school students.

Three annual fundraising events that the MHC&G sponsor are the Cesar Chavez Breakfast in celebration of his birthday, the Adelita Awards and Sopas de Amor. The Adelita Awards recognize Latina Women who have succeeded in spite of the many obstacles they may have encountered throughout their lives. The Sopas de Amor event offers from 10 to 15 different Mexican soups (sopas) that local restaurants cook and donate to the Mexican Heritage Center & Gallery.

In 2021 the Mexican coffee house was officially opened to the public. This coffee house is operated by the MHC&G. Arté del Café blends art and coffee. The menu features classic Mexican style mochas, lattes, horchata, tamales, empanadas, breakfast chorizo burritos, and much more. While customers wait for their coffee order, they are able to see art exhibits in the gallery.

The Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery has received recognition from the California State Legislature, United States House of Representatives, and local entities for bringing cultural awareness to the City and County of San Joaquin. For the last six years, the MHC&G has received the Stockton Record’s Best of San Joaquin People Choice Awards for Best Gallery.
